Mother with Child

Polymer clay and cloth

This sculpture draws inspiration from Käthe Kollwitz’s 1903 etching Woman with Dead Child, a haunting portrayal of a mother, almost primitively clinging to her lost son. I've always been moved by Kollwitz’s raw expression of sorrow and the broader devastation of war, and wanted tocapture the overwhelming, all-consuming weight of a mother’s grief and longing for her baby. This piece also speaks to the present, honoring the unimaginable suffering endured by mothers in Gaza, who continue to carry the unbearable burden of losing their children in the violence of an ongoing genocide daily.

*This piece was featured in the art exhibition, Here the Birds’ Journey Begins, on April 26th, 2025.

Make it stand out.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
